Garage Door Parts Explained | Residential Garage Door

In this video, we walk you through all the major parts and components of a residential garage door system. Whether you’re a homeowner looking to understand how your garage door works, or a DIYer tackling basic repairs, this guide covers everything you need to know.

How tight should set screws be?

Set screws secure your garage door springs or cable drums to the torsion tube. If you don't tighten them enough, the spring or drum could detach. If you overtighten them, you risk damaging your torsion tube and making it difficult to remove or install those parts in the future.

What happens if a spring breaks while winding?

This is unlikely, but you may be concerned about winding garage door springs and the possibility that they break during this process.
